Just a few weeks ago my family and I went on our first camping trip. We were accompanied by Pastor Joey and his family and we traveled to Monte Sano park about an hour away. It was a very relaxing time…that is after all the work and setup were complete.
But, I had a great little tireless helper who worked with me to get the job done.
Once all the work was done we were able to get down to business, the business of burning hot dogs that is.
In all it was a great mini-vacation and a wonderful opportunity to get out of the house and to enjoy the created world around us. We had no TV to watch, no phone to answer, no e-mail to check and certainly no worries. All we had to concern ourselves with was sitting around the fire and making up funny stories, or just sitting in silence thinking. So much of life seems to pass us by as work takes over to the point that what’s most important like faith, family and friends get turned aside and overlooked. This camping trip worked to reverse that trend.
The next morning we rekindled the fire, ate breakfast, packed our things and went for a little hike; what more could you ask for…except maybe to do it all over again.
