What is the life of a true Christian to be consumed by? First, to know God…
I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord (Phil 3:8).
Second, to make Him known…
And you will be My witnesses…to the end of the earth (Acts 1:8).
As a minister, shepherding the lives of young adults, there are few joys which surpass witnessing a student putting these two passions into practice. Today, I joyously witnessed such a thing.
I am in Cataula, GA (A suburb of Columbus) with my wife, three kids and 9 Sr. high youth. We arrived yesterday and hit the ground running. During the daytime this week we are laboring to share the love of Christ by serving members of the church we are partnering with. In the evenings we are laboring to share the gospel of Christ by leading a Back Yard Bible Club on the front lawn of a local elementary school. This morning we handed out fliers to invite kids to our BYBC and we also worked to clear some recently cut trees from the pastors back yard.
It is always a joy to serve others as a show of love, but this evening I was greatly moved to see a much loved student teach the gospel to a group of kids. Morgan Ridinger came to me weeks ago with a desire to not only attend this mission trip, but also to teach a lesson. She has spent the last few weeks studying and preparing and God used her mightily. Morgan did a wonderful job and I could not be more proud of her and thankful to God for what he has done and is doing in her life.
Tomorow night, another young lady(Alicia Bustillos) will have the same opportunity to bring glory to God by proclaiming His excellent worth while teaching that “God wins over other gods.”
Until then, I am joyously exhausted and pleasantly reminded that my path as a pilgrim is to be a simple one. One consumed by two pursuits…to know Him and to make Him known. Today, it was one of my students that reminded me of this.
