Ministering to a Grieving Friend

Today, is a day to grieve and mourn the loss of a life cut short. Just yesterday a dear couple discovered that their beautiful baby girl who was two months shy of her due date was no longer living. Olivia was lovingly carried by her mommy for seven months, but tonight we mourn over the life we never knew. My wife and I have had many conversations trying to determine what we could do to express our love, support and desire to minister to the Miller’s in the wake of unimaginable pain and loss.

I have turned to a couple who has recently walked that same difficult road, and is still on it. Molly and Abraham Piper lost their full term baby girl Felicity last September http://www.desiringgod.org/Blog/829_felicity_margaret_piper. Molly and Abraham are two strong and faithful children of God who have chronicled their grief knowing that “God works all things together for good, to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose (Rom 8:28).” Through their experience of grief they are able to comfort those who walk where they have.

Molly has written more than ten articles offering guidance on how a friend can help a loved one that is grieving http://thepipers.wordpress.com/2008/03/25/how-to-help-your-grieving-friend/. Be sure to read through all the posts in the series as we all try to understand how we might minister to our dear brother and sister.
