Is Hard Work a Fruit of the Spirit?

Today, as I came home from the office i went with my two-year old son out to water the garden. This garden has become a haven for me and a source of constant hard work bordering on toil. But, when Luke and I were working hard to water the precious tender plants I heard him say to me, “Good job Daddy, you’re gonna get a fruit sticker.”

For our kids we promote godly behavior and obedience by teaching them the Fruits of the Spirit which are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfullness, gentleness, self-control (Gal 5:22-23). We teach them, pray for them and encourage them to show these fruits to one another and others. If we see them doing such things we award them with fruit stickers on a chart. When they fill the chart we celebrate with them by doing something special just for them.

Evidently, Luke is expanding the scope of this list of fruits because he deemed my superb watering of the garden as grounds for a fruit sticker.
